Why I Stopped Watching TV
This past summer, (July 2001) I was convicted by the Holy Ghost to stop watching television.  I believe that it is inherently evil and can do very little good.  Hollywood-type movies can do NO good.  You will NEVER find anything wholesome and desent in a cinema or a video rental store.

This is what the Bible says about the things on TV:

2 John vs. 9-11
9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.
10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:
11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds
Now, how many of the people on TV "abide in the doctrine of Christ?" When someone watches TV, they are literally inviting people on the screen into their house.

Which of the following best describes TV:

Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. (Galatians 5:19-21)

or

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. (Galatians 5:22-23)

Which does a TV display more, the works of the flesh, or the fruit of the Spirit?

But wait!  I would never commit those sinful acts that I see on TV!
Why, then, do you watch it in the first place?

Abstain from all appearance of evil. (1 Thess 5:22)

Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men's sins: keep thyself pure. (1 Tim 5:22)

But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.  (Matt. 5:28)

Another thing, the Bible says thay we won't have TV in heaven:

And there shall in no wise enter into it [heaven] any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life. (Rev 21:27)

Many people, my brothers especially, think that I'm strange because I don't watch TV and because I call it sin.  The Bible describes them perfectly:
Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you: (1 Peter 4:4)

A note about idolatry: Some Christians spend more time watching TV then they do reading their Bible and praying. They have two masters, and they love the one and despise the other. This should not be so. Unfortunately, it is a sad fact that most Christians today are lukewarm like the church of the Laodiceans in Rev. chapter 3.
